When people come up against life problems they almost always attempt to solve these problems by engaging the world in some way or another. As a very simple example, a person with a headache might take a pain reliever or apply a compress to their forehead. The pain reliever and the compress are worldly things being used to solve a problem. Here’s another example: someone who is lonely and wants to find a mate joins an online singles website. Problem comes up, loneliness, a worldly response is used to try and solve the problem — singles website. This is the common pattern: problem appears, worldly solution is sought for and then applied. Typically people only turn away from this pattern after it fails, which happens fairly often. For instance, person with a medical issue applies a worldly response by seeking medical care.
