Responding to crisis: thinking
What about when life gets incredibly tough? What about when life feels overwhelming and we feel like we’re just hanging on and that we may end up losing our hold and fall into the void? And maybe falling into the void really doesn’t seem like a bad thing, it may seem preferable to the anguish we’re feeling. I get it. I’ve been there. Many people have been there. It’s an unhappy situation to be in. What typically triggers it is a crisis of some kind: a financial crisis, a health crisis, a relationship crisis, a significant loss, maybe a combination of things. What we want, of course, is for the crisis to end. We could also use support as the crisis is in progress, something to keep us afloat in the storm. If you have some kind of external support network, people that you can turn to for upliftment, that’s certainly helpful. Notice that I said an external support network.
